The Deputy Environment Secretary for Operations Stephanie Stringer has made her decision. The air quality permit application for the proposed Alto Concrete Batch Plant has been DENIED. The Deputy Environment Secretary’s final order can be read here.
As is said in this final order, the New Mexico Environment Department had never received an outpouring of public opposition to an Air Quality Permit Application as they did in response to the proposed Alto Concrete Batch Plant application. We are pleased that in the order for denial, the Deputy Secretary and Hearing Officer cited and concurred with our fundamental objections to the content of the application.
The decision of the Deputy Secretary can be appealed to the Environment Improvement Board, an independent advisory board to NMED, within next 30 days. We do not expect the EIB would overturn the Deputy Secretary’s decision.
Regardless, this is a major victory for the residents of the Alto area who have supported our cause. This is YOUR victory.
